Students at colleges and universities worldwide are preparing for the second annual On Air broadcast, a 24-hour programme that returns on Thursday 22 October and runs through 23 October. The Media Talent Manifesto (MTM) is leading the event, which brings together students, educators and industry partners for a multi-channel livestream.
The broadcast will stream live on YouTube and carry 107 hours of content across five channels. Alongside the new On Air Sport channel, the line-up includes On Air Culture UK, On Air Culture International, On Air News, On Air Kids and On Air Film. SVG Europe is the headline partner for On Air Sport.
Students will take part from 48 locations on six continents, from Cape Town, Lagos and Cairo to Mumbai, Busan, Auckland, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Ottawa and Tallinn. Tallinn University Baltic Film, Media and Arts School is listed among the European institutions.
On Air was first delivered in October 2025 as a continuous 24-hour livestream produced entirely by students, linking universities, colleges and schools across six continents. That edition involved more than 1,000 students, staff and industry volunteers.
The 2026 edition adds dedicated channels for culture, news, sport, film and children’s content. Organisers say the format allows wider participation and real-time collaboration between student teams in different countries and time zones. Students will work across the full media technology supply chain, with support from industry professionals and partners.
On Air Sport will be based at the University of Westminster’s Harrow campus, which is also the hub for core broadcast operations. Planned live sport includes a women’s futsal competition from Christchurch in New Zealand, basketball from Tallinn and go-karting from Thruxton in the UK. Hotcam is providing an outside-broadcast truck for the sport studio at Westminster, and Pro Link is providing a truck at the go-kart track.
As headline partner, SVG Europe is working with MTM on support for people entering sports broadcast, including content on career pathways and practical first steps into sports production. SVG Europe and some senior industry figures will also join studio discussions at the University of Westminster during the broadcast.
The programme will be available on demand after the live dates. The On Air team is asking supporters to subscribe to its YouTube channel at youtube.com/@thisisonair. Further details are at mediatalentmanifesto.com/on-air.
